Inclusion/SEND

Swarcliffe Primary School is a highly inclusive school school which strives to meet the needs of all our learners, regardless of a special educational need or disability (SEND). We work collabortively with our children, parents/carers, staff and outside agencies to provide the best possible outcomes for all. Our SEND Inclusion policy and procedures ensure that we maintain high expectations; early intervention and effective support is in place to ensure all our children reach their full potential.

"Pupils at this school are happy and safe. The school has high ambitions for what pupils achieve."

"The school quickly identifies pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The school works with external experts to identify their precise needs. Adjustments by teachers ensure these pupils’ needs are met and they successfully access the curriculum."

"The school quickly identifies and supports any pupils who need additional help learning to read. This helps pupils to become confident and fluent readers."

Working Together

Parents/carers are an integral part in their child's journey through school and are invited to attend regular parents' evenings and review meetings throughout the year. Where a child has more complex needs, parents/carers will be invited to review meetings which may involce other professionals from outside agencies. Parents/carers are always welcome to request a meeting with a member of the Inclusion Team should a concern arise.

We strongly encourage parents to engage in their child's learning in a range of ways such as: supporting homework; joining in our workshops/work-alongs and/or making valuable use of resources and support provided by school.

Staff are trained and work with professionals from outside agencies to develop their skills and knowledge in specific areas. Therefore we are able to offer a wide range of support and strategies to support inclusion at Swarcliffe Primary School.

Our learning environment is accessible and appropriate for our children is adapted when necessary to support learning and wellbeing.

The following policies are available and reflect our commitment to inclusion and wellbeing of children:

*Safeguarding/Child Protection Policy

*Behaviour Policy

*SEND/Inclusion Policy

*Anti-Bullying Policy

*Health and Safety Policies

*Acceptable Use and Online Safety Policy

*Single Equality Scheme and Action Plan

The Burrow

We are proud of our nurture provision in school: The Burrow. The Burrow is a nurturing room which provides a welcoming space which supports children's social and emotional development. This is where our Rise and Shine club takes place to welcome children into school from 8:35am. Throughout the school day, The Burrow provides a calm environment for children to explore and understand their feelings; develop self-regulation skills and feel supported when they need extra time and space. A range of activities are delivered here, including:

*Zones of Regulation

*Targeted Learning Support

*Lego Therapy

*Theraplay

*Emotional Support Interventions

*Intensive Interactions

The Hive

The Hive is a nurturing and inclusive classroom designed to support children with complex learning differences, communication needs, and/or autism. Our (unofficial) provision is for pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), or who are currently undergoing an EHC Needs Assessment.  Children who attend The Hive usually have a diagnosis of autism or are on the autism assessment pathway.

We understand that every child is unique. That’s why our classroom environment is carefully designed to meet individual sensory needs and promote a sense of safety, calm, and connection. When children feel regulated and supported, they are ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

The Hive includes:

A fully equipped hygiene suite and accessible toilet area

Indoor provision areas to stimulate all senses and movement

Secure and stimulating outdoor play space

Children in The Hive follow a personalised, sensory-based curriculum built around engaging themes. We also provide focused teaching of core subjects, always tailored to suit each child’s individual learning profile. Communication, interaction, and independence are at the heart of everything we do.

At Swarcliffe Primary School, we believe children learn best when they are happy, confident, and supported to be themselves.

Sensory Room and Regulation Room

We are proud to have developed a Sensory Room designed to provide a calm and supportive space for children who may benefit from additional sensory input or a quiet environment. The room offers a range of resources such as soothing lights, textures and sounds, helping children to feel regulated, relaxed and ready to learn. It can be used for individual or small group sessions, supporting wellbeing, focus and the development of self-regulation skills. The Sensory Room is an important part of our inclusive approach, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive. UKS2 children have access to a Regulation Room throughout the school day to enable children to take a short break away from the classroom if needed before returning to continue with their learning.
